Marietta Fire Department wins 2016 Marietta Softball Classic title

Marietta, Georgia –

On a very hot Saturday (June 25), the brave men and women of the Marietta Fire and Marietta Police Departments squared off in the 4th annual Marietta Softball Classic (MSC).  The charity softball tournament, hosted by The 6-4-3 Foundation at Aviation Sports Complex, benefitted The Gold Shield Foundation of Metro Atlanta.

In a modified format, this year's Marietta Softball Classic featured the Marietta Fire Department vs. the Marietta Police Department in a best-of-five game series.  The Fire vs. Police series witnessed aggressive baserunning, clutch hitting and defensive gems (including a bare handed grab in the outfield).  Game 1 was an even matchup through five innings with both teams knotted at two runs apiece.  In the sixth inning however, the Marietta Fire offense plated eight unanswered runs to capture the victory by the final score of 10-2.  In Game 2, it was all Marietta Fire as they rolled to a dominant 11-0 final score.  Game 3 was another tight ballgame (much like Game 1) with close scores throughout.  At the end of Game 3 it was the scrappy Marietta Police squad that was victorious by the final score of 5-4.  In Game 4, the Marietta Fire team jumped to an early lead (3-0).  In the third inning, the Marietta Police squad got on the board by scoring a run.  However, the Marietta Fire team continued to add insurance runs in the fourth and fifth innings and ultimately won the contest by the final score of 5-2.  With the Game 4 win, the men and women of the Marietta Fire team took the series by a margin of three games to one to win the 2016 Marietta Softball Classic.  This marks Marietta Fire’s fourth MSC title in as many years.

The 6-4-3 Foundation also wishes to recognize Lieutenant Bobby Moss with Marietta Fire Department and Major Steve Kish with Marietta Police Department for their efforts in making the Marietta Softball Classic successful.  The 2016 Marietta Softball Classic was a winning event and we look forward to an even better one in 2017!
