Marietta, Georgia (Cobb County)
6-4-3 DP Athletics, is proud to share an alumni spotlight on the amazing story, journey, and career of Charlie Condon.
Charlie played for a combination of Cougars and Jaguars teams during his 9U-18U seasons at 6-4-3. Danny Pralgo, founder of 6-4-3 DP Baseball, speaks highly of Charlie: "The entire organization and I couldn't be more proud of Charlie for how he conducted himself on the field, in the classroom, and within the community throughout his years at 6-4-3. He was always an exceptional teammate, extremely coachable, the first to arrive and the last to leave, and a natural-born leader. He played on many of our different teams, always with a smile and a passion not only for the game but also for his fellow players. We are extremely proud at 6-4-3 to call him one of our own!"
Coach Brett Beasley remarked, "Not many people knew what Charlie could do, but during his 17U summer at 6-4-3, he began to show everyone. In his first at-bat of the summer, Charlie hit a line drive home run and never looked back. He played with a quiet confidence and an unparalleled internal fire, never getting too high or too low. Charlie is a special player! Whoever selects him in the upcoming MLB draft isn't just getting a talented athlete; they're drafting a role model for generations to come. I am incredibly proud of Charlie and can't wait to see what the future holds!"
He attended high school at The Walker School in Marietta, where he was a four-year starter on the diamond and a three-year starter at quarterback for the football team.
Charlie had a very successful high school career, batting .515 as a junior. As a senior, he was named First Team All-Region and Region Hitter of the Year, batting .432 with a 1.310 OPS, while leading his team to the Sweet Sixteen of the state playoffs.
After graduating in 2021, he chose to attend the University of Georgia as a walk-on. He was redshirted his first year at UGA during their 2022 spring season, which set the stage for one of the greatest freshman seasons in the history of college baseball.
As a redshirt freshman in 2023, Charlie led UGA in batting average, home runs, and RBIs, totaling a line of .386/25/67. His slugging percentage led the SEC at .800, and his batting average was the second highest in the entire conference. He also posted a .992 fielding percentage, starting every game defensively for the Bulldogs, playing either corner outfield or first base. His 25 home runs were an SEC freshman record.
This led to a series of accolades, including SEC Freshman of the Year, All-SEC honors, National Freshman of the Year, National Freshman Hitter of the Year, and All-American honors. Following the 2023 spring season, Charlie earned a spot on the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team and competed with them during their summer circuit.
After a stellar breakout year in 2023, Charlie took it to another level in 2024.
Charlie led the Bulldogs to the No. 7 national seed in the NCAA Tournament with a record of 39-15 in the regular season. During the regular season, he had seven multi-home run games, including a home run streak of eight games in a row (one game shy of the NCAA record). He was named the 2024 SEC Player of the Year and is a finalist for the Golden Spikes Award.
After UGA’s elimination in the NCAA Super Regionals, Condon ended his 2024 campaign with a .433 average, 37 home runs (UGA single-season and BBCOR-era records), and 78 RBIs. At the time his season ended, Condon was the nation’s leader in average, home runs, slugging percentage (1.009), and total bases (229). Condon played third base, first base, and all three outfield for the Bulldogs in 2024. He is now the career home run leader for UGA (62).
Charlie is currently regarded as one of the favorites to be the No. 1 overall draft pick in the 2024 MLB Draft on July 14.
We congratulate Charlie on a phenomenal finish to his amateur playing career! We look forward to watching and sharing his future success as a professional!
