Commitment to Safety
6-4-3 DP Athletics is committed to providing a safe competition and training environment for our players. The physical well being of our players is of utmost importance to 6-4-3. All 6-4-3 coaches and staff members will follow the action plan described below if an athlete has the possibility of a concussion, and be aware of common concussion symptoms to look out for when an injury occurs.
- Remove athlete from play.
- Ensure athlete is evaluated by an appropriate health care professional. Do not try to judge the seriousness of the injury yourself.
- Inform athlete’s parents or guardians about the known or possible concussion and give them the fact sheet on concussion injuries.
- Allow athlete to return to play only with permission from an appropriate health care professional.
- Headache or “pressure” in head
- Nausea or vomiting
- Balance problems or dizziness
- Double or blurry vision
- Sensitivity to light
- Sensitivity to noise
- Feeling sluggish, hazy, foggy, or groggy
- Concentration or memory problems
- Does not “feel right”
- Appears dazed or stunned
- Is confused about assignment or position
- Forgets sports plays
- Is unsure of game, score, or opponent
- Moves clumsily
- Answers questions slowly
- Loses consciousness (even briefly)
- Can’t recall events prior to hit or fall
- Can’t recall events after hit or fall
