Obituary:
Darren Keith Bowers was born on June 5, 1960, in Red Bank, New Jersey. Darren died on February 27, 2023, in Marietta, Georgia.
Darren attended Bayshore High School in Bradenton, Florida, where he graduated in 1978. During high school, Darren was one of several students that played the mascot (Bobby the Bruin), and he was a founding member, and the only male student, of the “meditations club”, a group of students that read inspiring messages over the loudspeaker during morning announcements. Even in high school, Darren was already showing his predilection for encouragement and enthusiasm.
Darren loved baseball as a fan and coach. He was a long-time Boston Red Sox fan. He attended the annual American Baseball Association Convention many, many times. For decades, Darren coached youth baseball teams in the Greater Atlanta area and elsewhere. Darren had coaching stints with East Cobb Baseball, Titans Baseball Academy, 6-4-3 DP Baseball and others. He poured so much into the lives of countless middle school, high school, and travel ball players. Most recently, Darren was an assistant coach with the Pace Academy (Atlanta, Georgia) baseball teams and a travel baseball coach with 6-4-3 DP Baseball (Marietta, Georgia). Starting in 2019, Darren served 6-4-3 as an assistant coach with the 13u Jaguars, 14u Tigers, 16u Panthers, 17u Tigers, and 18u Cougars. In the 2022-2023 season, served as the head coach for the 14u Panthers.
An avid weightlifter, Darren preached physical and mental discipline to his athletes, demanding and demonstrating how to do the little things right, and how attention to detail was a key component in the development of a student-athlete on and off the field.
Coach Darren Bowers impacted many lives on the field and many off the field. He was not only a coach, but also a friend and mentor to many. His knowledge, wisdom, and passion for the game of baseball was always felt by each team he coached.
