Earlier this month, The 6-4-3 Foundation awarded five grants from its newly created 2020 COVID-19 Response Fund for the local community. With the COVID-19 pandemic causing havoc and distress in our nation and in the State of Georgia, there are vulnerable populations of Americans/Georgians facing serious challenges. Thanks to the generosity of many past and present supporters, The 6-4-3 Foundation was able to quickly deploy financial resources to five local organizations working with vulnerable populations of Georgians to minimize issues concerning healthcare and safety, employment, financial security and/or food scarcity.
The 6-4-3 Foundation’s board of directors designated $15,000 in matching funds for this important response in our local community. Over a two-week fundraising effort, nearly $15,000 more was collected from generous and thoughtful donors to maximize the matching challenge. With nearly $30,000 generated for the COVID-19 Response Fund, The 6-4-3 Foundation seized the opportunity to make a timely and positive impact in a time of great need.
- The first grant of over $5,300 supported the Good Samaritan Health Center of Cobb and its efforts to provide medical and health services in Cobb County.
- The second grant of over $5,300 supported Operation Hope and its efforts to provide financial knowledge, education and assistance for individuals and businesses.
- The third grant of over $5,300 supported the Sweetwater Mission and its efforts to provide food and clothing assistance to low-income residents of Cobb, Douglas and Paulding counties.
- The fourth grant of over $3,500 supported Healthcare Heroes ATL initiative and their efforts to provide meals to frontline healthcare workers in the Atlanta area.
- The fifth grant supported Marietta City Schools’ student assistance programs. The MCS Cares Fund and Lunch Angels Fund each received over $3,500 to aid in their efforts to provide delivered meals to students in need and offer resources for social workers in schools to assist families in emergency.
- In addition, and through donor directed interest, emergency assistance grants were created for players and families inside the 6-4-3 DP Baseball academy to combat financial hardship as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Established in 2013, The 6-4-3 Foundation is a 501(c)(3) Georgia not-for-profit corporation. The mission of The 6-4-3 Foundation is to enhance the lives of children and families through sports. The purpose of the organization: The 6-4-3 Foundation will actively participate in, and contribute toward, initiatives that serve to better the lives of people and communities in need. The 6-4-3 Foundation will strive to be an exemplary model of citizenship for youth and their families by investing in our youth, fundraising for worthy causes aligned with our mission, and organizing volunteer opportunities for our youth and their families. While the academy of 6-4-3 DP Baseball will teach its youth participants the game of baseball, The 6-4-3 Foundation will teach youth (both inside and outside the 6-4-3 program) and their families the rewards of giving to their communities and how much positive difference charitably minded individuals can make.
