Crushin' for Carson! - Home Run Derby Rules Released

Marietta, Georgia

By: Drew Waters

The rules for the 2016 Crushin' for Carson! Home Run Derby are as follows:

General

Professional prospects and hitters will use wood bats.

15-18U players will use wood bats.

8-14U players will use any bat of their choosing.

Preliminary Round

Hitters will have the chance to hit as many pitches as possible within a 2 minute clock countdown. (Next pitch will not be thrown until previous batted ball lands on the ground).

A home run over the Field 1 outfield fence shall count as 1 home run for 15-18U+ contestants.  A home run over the Field 2 outfield fence shall count as 1 home run for 13-14U contestants.  A home run over the Field 3 outfield fence shall count as 1 home run for 11-12U contestants.  A “fence” line will be installed for ages 8-10 at the distance of 175 feet.  A home run over the installed line/flags shall count as 1 home run for 8-10U contestants.

The top 3 home run hitters (by number of home runs) on each field in the preliminary round will advance to the semi-final round.

Semi-final Round

Each hitter will get a 2 minute clock countdown in the semi-final round. (Next pitch will not be thrown until previous batted ball lands on the ground).

“Fence” lines will be installed for contestants ages 8-10, 11-12, and 13-14 participating in the semifinals along with the 15-18+/PRO contestants. “Fence” distances in the finals will be as follows:

8-10U – 175 feet // 11-12U – 225 feet // 13-14U – 300 feet

15-18+/PRO – Actual Field #1 fence

Four (4) finalists will advance out of the semi-final round.
Final Round

Each hitter in the finals will get one (1) continuous round of pitches totaling ten (10) outs.  An out is defined as any swing resulting in a non-home run outcome.

One home run derby champion will be named who hits the most home runs in the final round of competition.  NOTE: Semi-final home run tallies do not carry over.  The contest resets in the finals.

Tiebreaker

In the event of a tie in any round, a five (5) swing playoff between the participants will determine the hitter that will advance (most home runs within the 5 swing playoff decides).
