Congratulations to the 6-4-3 DP Tigers 12U squad for winning the PBR Easter Challenge tournament last weekend! The 12U Tigers offense was excellent over the weekend as they went 3-0 in the tournament outscoring their opponents by a margin of 26-1. While the offense was good, pitching and defense stole the show as the Tigers threw 2 shutouts, allowed a total of 4 hits and only committed 1 error over the 3 games. Kyle Coleman, Sam Harris, Daniel Cubides, Chase Bredickas, Brayden Varnes, Jamal Burton and Owen McKeeby each played a role in the excellent pitching.
In Game 1 the Tigers faced the TB Blue Sox and won by a score of 15-0. Sam Harris and Kyle Coleman combined on the mound for a 1-hit shutout. Offensively the Tigers pounded out 10 hits led by Chase Bredickas and Holden Wagner who each contributed 2 hits.
In Game 2 of the tournament the Tigers faced Diamond Red from Knoxville, Tennessee, and had a hard fought defensive game. Owen McKeeby hit a 2-run home run in the third inning which proved to be enough for the win. Daniel Cubides threw 4 1/3 innings while striking out eight. Defensively the Tigers were on point as Colin Cross and Connor Patel each made game saving diving catches in the Tigers 2-1 victory. Chase Bredickas picked up the save.
Then the Tigers beat the East Cobb Colt 45’s in the championship game by a score of 9-0. Jamal Burton and Owen McKeeby combined for the shutout and only allowed 1 hit.
Over the tournament the Tigers offense was led by Holden Wagner who went 5 for 8 with 3 stolen bases and Caleb Vigna who also contributed 2 stolen bases and went 3 for 6. Every player on the team had at least 1 hit as the Tigers pounded out 24 hits over the 3 games.
